“What’s the Use to be a Moose?” is a short film based on the true story of a male moose who fell in love with a farmer’s cow in 1980s Vermont, and the international sensation that followed.
Real Life Inspiration
Larry Carrara woke up on October 25, 1986 to discover a young male moose had wandered onto his Shrewsbury, Vermont farm and was hanging around Jessica, his Hereford cow. Little did he know that this would lead to a 76 day “love affair” between his cow and the lone moose, and cause a media sensation.
Media outlets in Vermont, across the country, and even internationally (Sydney, Australia) picked up the story. Notables like the New York Times, USA Today, CNN, and People Magazine report on the story. Even Johnny Carson talks about the moose and cow during a “Tonight Show” monologue.
In the end, over 100,000 people visit the Carrara farm to see the moose and Jessica.
